The Monthly Review spotlights a different URACer each month in a Q&A. This month it's Judy Kerr, one of URAC's Accreditation Reviewers.

TMR: When did you start at URAC and what brought you here?

JudyWhat brought me?  My father worked for years as part of the Combustion Gas Committee in DC setting Safety Standards.  When I learned about URAC setting Health Care Standards, I knew that if given the opportunity, I wanted to be a part of it.  Bryan McGann called and let us (Diane and I) know of the opening at URAC and the rest is history.

TMR: What were you doing before you came to URAC?

JudyMy background is an OB/Gyne/Maternity Nurse.  After leaving direct patient care, I worked at Highmark BCBS for 18+ years in various areas gaining a lot of HealthPlan experience.  This is where I learned about URAC, Accreditations and Standards.

TMR: Describe yourself in three words.

Judy: Child of God!

TMR: How do you like to spend your leisure time?

JudyFamily, Loving on my Grandsons (I have 2 sons, 2 grandsons and a 3rd grandson due in May).  I like to garden, vacation, eat and read.

TMR: What’s your favorite restaurant?

Judy: My favorite restaurant right now is V & V Scratch Kitchen here where I live (Finleyville, PA – 12 miles South of Pittsburgh).  While traveling as a Reviewer, I learned from my co-workers about Farm to Table.  This restaurant has a small town feel with an excellent menu that changes weekly.

TMR: What do you like to watch?

JudyYou can usually find me at night watching HGTV.  My husband & sons are big into Motocross. Most Sunday Nights you can find us watching the Super Cross races.

TMR: What kind of books do you like to read?

JudyMurder Mysteries – Favorites are anything by Diane Mott-Davidson.

TMR: What's your favorite vacation spot?

JudyMy daughter in law is from the Dominican Republic.  This has become one of our favorite destinations.  My son was married there in Santo Domingo in 2017.  If you don’t find me at a beach, we then are in Colorado visiting my brother (family) or skiing or going to a Motor Cross Event.  Last October we went to Michigan for the Motor Cross of Nations which is like the Olympics of Motor Cross.  Every year it is in a different country.  2018 is was in Michigan so we couldn’t miss that opportunity.

TMR: Are you a cat person or a dog person?

JudyDefinite Dog. I am allergic to cats!

TMR: Tell us something about yourself that most people at URAC would not know about you.

JudyI initially went to college to be an Architectural Interior Designer.  Long story short - God had other plans for me and I accidentally became a nurse 😊 and so Happy I did!
