Hello! I’m the new person in the office. I think we will have a chance to learn more about each other over the next few weeks, but, just to make things easy, I’ll go first.

I’m Shawn Griffin and I’m the newest team member in the DC office. Based on the number of LinkedIn visits I have received over the last few weeks many of you already know my background, but for those who don’t, I come to URAC from Premier in Charlotte, NC where I was most recently the VP of Clinical Performance Improvement and Applied Analytics. Prior to that I was the Chief Quality and Informatics Officer in the Memorial Hermann system in Houston. I am very excited to be joining the outstanding team at URAC and I look forward to speaking with, and hearing from, all of you. My background is in technology, quality improvement, population health, and strategic analytics. I’m a well-known speaker on these topics and have spoken for many large organizations including the AMA, AMGA, NQF, HIMSS, and KLAS.

On a personal note, I’m married and we have five sons (yes, five). My wife and two of my sons are staying in Charlotte until this spring when our youngest will graduate from high school. I will be staying in DC full-time while I settle in at URAC and look for housing in the area. I have another son in the area at Quantico, one in Texas, and one up in NYC. I’m originally from the Midwest and graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa.  My wife and I both grew up in small towns and I have many interesting stories about that.

Many have asked me about my vision for URAC. I believe that URAC plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of healthcare. I believe that the leadership team is a skilled group of experienced people and I look forward to adding my skills to that team. I look forward to sharing my unique experiences and connections with the entire organization and using my skills to increase the value that URAC brings both to the organizations we work with and the people they serve.

In this time of increasing challenges to demonstrate both the safety and quality of the healthcare people receive, URAC is an organization that people can trust to be the honest third party about the services and care people receive. In all the talk these days about outcomes and quality, most people need knowledgeable help about what those words really mean in healthcare. I want the gold star of URAC to mean the top of the class when it comes to serving people in healthcare. I want every one of you to be proud to be a part of URAC and what it means today and tomorrow.
