E-mail is an important tool for communication, but it is also the number one vector for cyberattacks.  Phishing attacks, the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, have tripled since 2016.  As such, URAC will be introducing a new piece of technology called Mimecast to our technology stack.

Mimecast will be analyzing all e-mails before they reach your inbox.  Each e-mail sender will be checked against a database of known attackers, scanned for fraudulent attachments, and examined for links which lead to sources which may contain malware.  Potentially unsafe attachments are converted automatically before they are sent on to you.  You will also have the ability to report any e-mail you find suspicious to URAC IT staff as well as the Mimecast Security Center, where it will be examined further.

Though we expect that this additional layer of security will help to keep you safer from attackers, we encourage you to remain vigilant.  Please feel free to report anything you find suspicious to the URAC IT Team. 

We expect to implement this technology in the coming weeks, and will notify you when it is in place.
