A group of URAC leaders and managers have spent several months reviewing URAC’s approach to delegation. Members of the Review Team and Account Management Staff provided valuable insight enabling capture of strengths and weaknesses in the standards and our validation methods.

Analysis confirmed that URAC’s delegation standards were too cumbersome and often confusing to clients. A smaller work group was convened to move forward on updating the standards and validation methods, working under the assumption that our former approach left URAC somewhat vulnerable. Through the resulting revisions, we have an opportunity to better serve our clients, enhance the level of oversight in the review process, and reduce risk to URAC.

The revised delegation standards are part of the about-to-be-launched Core v4.0 Standards when those standards are used as the foundational module of an accreditation program. Some key provisions include:

• Retain credit for compliance when delegating to a URAC-accredited organization;
• Define proof of compliance required when delegating to an organization that is not URAC accredited;
• Detail updated validation methods for both DTR and VR;
• Restate the accreditation eligibility requirement that an applicant must perform 50% of the elements of performance in the purchased program module (excluding Core from the calculation).
