Product Development is pleased to announce that the Community Pharmacy v2.0 revised accreditation is now available. To understand why Community Pharmacy was selected for revision in 2018, it is important to understand the state of the pharmacy industry.

The pharmacy industry is evolving rapidly. Changes including provider shortages, value-based reimbursement, rising cost of prescription drugs, the demand for better patient outcomes and adherence, and the rapid increase in the incidence of chronic diseases, are just a few of the emerging market dynamics.

To survive and thrive, pharmacies must adapt to these marketplace challenges. URAC has revised its Community Pharmacy accreditation program to provide a roadmap to address these challenges, and provide a glidepath for pharmacies interested in Specialty Pharmacy accreditation.

The following standards highlight the enhancements introduced to the Community Pharmacy v2.0 accreditation program:

  • Business ethics
  • Business management
  • Staff management
  • Delegation management
  • Scope of services and pharmacy operations
  • Pharmacy product handling and maintenance
  • Pharmacy oversight and management
  • Patient safety and education
  • Pharmacy services – counseling and immunizations

As community pharmacies evolve to meet the growing demands imposed by the market, URAC’s Community Pharmacy accreditation may serve to prepare pharmacies for this new role.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank both the Product Development and Pharmacy Teams for their collaborative effort. A job well done!
