Simon Sinek, the author of Great Leaders Start with Why, surmises that very few people and very few organizations can clearly articulate: Why they do what they do. Why is a purpose, a cause or a belief. It provides a clear answer to the questions, “Why do you get out of bed every morning?” “Why does your organization exist?” and “Why should that matter to anyone else?.”

Throughout URAC’s strategic planning process, the organization’s leadership has put Sinek’s sentiment to the test. Initially, several planning meetings were devoted to the transformations taking place in the healthcare industry at large and the impact each will have on URAC. Throughout these discussions, the Leadership Team never lost sight of how to position the organization to thrive and create new value for both our customers and the consumer.
The second phase of the planning process addressed URAC’s internal operational strengths and vulnerabilities. This assessment was performed at both the functional and organizational level. The "sphere of opportunity" framework shown here was the result of the Leadership Team brainstorming sessions. The sphere framework helped to both organize and inform our thinking before the hard work of prioritizing opportunities began. Of note, the consumer (or beneficiary) is at the center of all we do. Whether a member of the team is involved in a desktop review, a validation review, accounting, marketing, sales, measurement or policy/government affairs, we all directly or indirectly impact the consumer experience. That’s a pretty powerful "Why."
Please stay tuned for a series of Lunch and Learns that will be scheduled over the next few months.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to make a difference in the lives of others.
