The Monthly Review spotlights a different URACer each month in a Q&A. This month it's Tanya Bennett, one of URAC's Accreditation Reviewers.
TMR: When did you start at URAC and what brought you here?
Tanya: May 7, 2012. I was looking for a more challenging yet still rewarding position.
TMR: What were you doing before you came to URAC?
Tanya: I am a Registered Nurse of 25 years. I primarily worked in the ICUs for the first 10-15 years. I also worked for the City of Chicago Dept of Public Health. I transitioned out of direct patient care in 2008 and worked for HCSC – BlueCross BlueShield of IL. There I had oversight of the URAC HUM & CM programs at BCBSIL. My title was URAC Program Coordinator.
TMR: Describe yourself in three words.
Tanya: Focused, Free-spirited, Assertive.
TMR: How do you like to spend your leisure time?
Tanya: Spending time with my daughter doing whatever. I really enjoy our mommy-daughter time. I also love football (Go Bears! I’m just a kid from the southside of Chicago 😊)
TMR: What’s your favorite restaurant?
Tanya: I do not have a favorite restaurant but I do love to eat Mexican food and pizza. 😊
TMR: What do you like to watch?
Tanya: I love watching movies. My all-time favorite is Mahogany starring Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams. My favorite shows are the Chicago Series (Chicago Med, Fire and PD); Law & Order: SVU, Living Single.
TMR: What kind of books do you like to read?
Tanya: I do not read for leisure as much as I am in school.
TMR: What's your favorite vacation spot?
Tanya: I love any place where there is warm weather, beach and ocean. Cabos is one of my favorites. I was there in January and did nothing but sit in front of the ocean and enjoy the sunrays.
TMR: Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Tanya: Definitely dogs 😊
TMR: Tell us something about yourself that most people at URAC would not know about you.
Tanya: I have been an event planner for the last 20 years. I have planned weddings, fashion shows, some corporate events, book signings, birthday/anniversary parties, proms and reunions.
