The Monthly Review spotlights a different URACer each month in a Q&A. This month it's Lauren Hammett, URAC's Product Development Associate.
TMR: When did you start at URAC and what brought you here?
Lauren: I just started at URAC this past September! Though I didn’t have much background in healthcare, I could tell URAC was focused on making a positive social impact, which was very important to me during my job search, and I knew I would learn a lot here!
TMR: What were you doing before you came to URAC?
Lauren: I graduated from the College of William & Mary with my B.A. in Linguistics & Global Studies last May and had an internship at the Center for Applied Linguistics (in Tenleytown) over the summer.
TMR: Describe yourself in three words.
Lauren: I would say that I’m people-oriented, spirited, and driven, but that’s a tough one- I think I got asked this in my interview!
TMR: How do you like to spend your leisure time?
Lauren: I love exploring the city, especially since I didn’t grow up in the D.C. area, so I’ve visited a lot of museums and seen some shows at Wolf Trap & the Kennedy Center since I moved here. Other than that, I like seeing movies or trying new restaurants with friends.
TMR: What’s your favorite restaurant?
Lauren: I love the Cheesecake Factory, and my favorite local place back home in Pennsylvania is called Ron’s- I love it because it’s always a great place to go with family!
TMR: What do you like to watch?
Lauren: I love movies and TV, so I watch a little bit of everything, but right now I watch This is Us, The Bachelor, Brooklyn 99, and The Good Place every week! I love romantic comedies, so a couple of my favorite movies are When Harry Met Sally and 13 Going on 30.
TMR: What kind of books do you like to read?
Lauren: I’ve always loved to read, so again, it’s a bit of everything, but I mainly read popular fiction from the library! I really like We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, and right now I’m reading The Favorite Sister.
TMR: What's your favorite vacation spot?
Lauren: When I was growing up, my whole extended family went to Corolla in the Outer Banks every year, so that’s still one of my favorite spots! I love being in the water and always did a lot of reading while I was there.
TMR: Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Lauren: Cat person!
TMR: Tell us something about yourself that most people at URAC would not know about you.
Lauren: I recently got a tattoo of two champagne glasses on my hip in honor of my grandmother!
