Where do we stand with Core now? Let us recap…

Core v3.0 and PHARM Core v3.1 have been officially retired!

Organizations that signed a AAA on or after August 1, 2018, must apply for accreditations that include Core v3.2 or PHARM Core v3.2, which are the same as their previous version except for the delegation section. Under Core/PHARM Core v3.2, the delegation section is listed as follows:

  • Core 6 - (Reserved)
  • Core 7 - (Reserved)
  • Core 8 - (Reserved)
  • Core 9 -  Delegation Management

These changes do not affect the applicability of Core or PHARM Core across the various accreditation programs, and the new delegation standard is only applicable if the applicant organization delegates functions covered by the accreditation – no change there as well.

When will guides be published for the programs containing Core v3.2 and PHARM Core v3.2?

Currently, a supplemental guide limited to the updated delegation section was published and released on August 1, 2018. Copies were posted in the “General Resources” section of AccreditNet as well as the “Program Standards and Maintenance” section of Sharepoint. For the time being, this supplement along with the existing program guides constitute the new program guides containing Core v3.2 until updated guides can be published in the new format with the current URAC branding.

What about companies currently accredited or applying for initial accreditation or reaccreditation under a program containing Core version 3.0 or PHARM Core version 3.0?

Good question! These companies need to maintain compliance with the applicable Core (v3.0) or PHARM Core (v3.1) standards until they upload documentation for their reaccreditation application under the next version of Core/PHARM Core (i.e., v3.2).

Where does Core v4.0 stand?

As you may recall, this version of Core has been released in the following programs:

  • Case Management v6.0
  • Certification of Organizational Management v1.0
  • Community Pharmacy v2.0
  • Select Core v4.0 standards are in Telehealth v2.0

Core v4.0 will be re-evaluated based on information gleaned from applications for these accreditation programs. The revised Core v4.0 will likely change from its current form. The extent of the changes will be dictated by the results of the analysis. At this point, we cannot project how long this will take, so stay tuned for periodic updates on our progress in this area.
